And the author quotes a guy saying, secrecy is now the principal activity of government, a tool of social control so powerful with barricades so high that very few ordinary citizens may hope to scale them, unquote. And I couldn't agree more. And

2:19 Organizations that come along like the American Civil Liberty Union, if you go back and you look at who actually created it, they're all an illusion. It's a joke. The use of secrecy to conceal criminal conspiracy famously came to a head during Ronald Reagan's term in 1986, which of course we've talked about several times, the Iran-Contra, where you had clandestine arms for cash carousel in which

2:51 Munitions were sold to Iranians. Then at war with Iraq, who we were also selling arms to. And then the proceeds of the arms to Iran was being used to fund guerrillas called Contras, which, of course, were trying to overthrow the legitimate government of the Sandinistas. But we were told they were communists. So that made it all OK.

3:21 And of course, that was taking place in Nicaragua. And we had Gladio operators in Honduras and Costa Rica, all at war with Nicaragua, who all they did was want their country back. So the whole thing's crazy. And then you have the Watergate legendary burglary, which basically was another.

And then you had the late Christopher Hitchens, who speculated some kind of launch pad for a quasi coup to save America from revolutionary anti-war flower power people. And that the legendary burglary served to drown out the public loudspeaker blaring the state murder of leading black rights advocate, black Panther.

4:30 Fred Hampton and Mark Clark. And I don't know if you guys have ever heard about this story, because it's a crazy story. And when they sacrifice a president like Richard Nixon in order to change the subject, they've done much worse. So I did want to get into it a little bit about this Black Panther, Fred Hampton. And Mark Clark was his bodyguard, if you will.

5:02 Basically, the story is that Fred Hampton created a thing called the Rainbow Coalition. He took in Chicago all of the poor blacks, whites and Hispanics and began creating collective groupings of these people in order to advocate for government change.

5:33 Well, the one thing that the deep state or the international syndicate can cannot have is us collectively working together. So this guy had to go. And of course, they called him a communist and said he was a fascist and that he was a huge threat. So in 1967, the FBI sent in informants.

6:04 and drugged him in his house. Then they came in, guns blaring, busted the door down, shot the guy that was sitting in the front room because he was the security guy and had a gun. And his gun went off when he got shot. So then they, of course, could say that there were shots fired. Then they went into each of the bedrooms and shot the people in all of the bedrooms. And that was, they killed him.

6:35 And they wounded all of the other people. And then, of course, we got lied to about the whole thing. People were so outraged at this point that there are many people that believe that the whole break-in of Watergate and everything else was done as a diversion. The Iran-Contra fear and Reagan's role in it reduced Watergate to a minor infraction.

7:07 As Haynes Johnson wrote in Sleepwalking Through History, the CIA and a previously obscured Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North put together a network loosely referred to as the Enterprise. But it's basically the CIA within the CIA that is off the books and unknown to Congress as well. Reagan had already given his personal commitment to maintaining the Contras in the field at any cost.

The enterprise blossomed to a full-scale octopus. It could count on its own airline, ships, and front companies nourished by hundreds of secret offshore bank accounts. 9:09 The original Iran-Contra concept was eclipsed by an extraordinary extension of the enterprise. Shipments of NATO munitions and narcotics by rackets associated with the CIA were funneled through the hardline communist state of Bulgaria. Bulgaria comes up a lot when you're shipping arms. And there's a whole chapter devoted to that because I really want everybody to understand how that works.

9:37 Iran-Contra was accidentally exposed when a lone supply plane ditched in a rainforest. Some people say it was shot down. Every individual involved, right up to the president himself, lied. Daniel Ellsberg, the State Department whistleblower who exposed the U.S. military best-kept Vietnam secrets, immortalized in the Pentagon Papers, denounced the Iran-Contra as quite the worst covert operation in U.S. history.

10:08 And then, of course, you heard the normal Reagan took a nap and basically sucked through the whole thing. Iran-Contra was a natural offshoot of the years of lead, which rocked the European continent for more than 20 years, specifically talking about Italy, but many others. NATO and the Pentagon, the CIA, the Holy See, the Vatican, Eastern Bloc states like Bulgaria and Romania, Turkish criminal gangs and mafia.

10:38 The Great Wolves. Supporting roles were also reserved for all of the rest of the IC, like Mossad, Britain, Germany, Italy, Korea. And George Kennan, who makes an appearance in all of these books, who seemed to me grandly over-promoted in the post-war record. Although unintentional, his intellectual legacy

He was someone who thoroughly disturbed Washington with his warnings of a communist menace that would spread from the east and disappear underground like an incubus. With the power to subvert the social fabric of the Western alliance, this alarming prospect fanned the Red Scare sweeping the United States.

13:15 And also gave rise to Senator Joe McCarthy and all of the anti-communist rhetoric that we heard ever since. There are some people that think that he did that based on the fact that he was told to do that so they could create that menace, so then they could use the menace. You have to read his work in order to form your own opinion. He saw himself as a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind.

13:49 Truman administration was eager to exploit American bewilderment over Russia for their own aims. He allowed himself to imply that Stalin might be maddened involuntarily or be a hermit roaming around the Kremlin almost like a dazed lunatic. Russia's historical isolation from liberating European trends, such as the Enlightenment and the Renaissance,

Moscow still nursed smoldering grievances over the polar bear expedition authorized by Woodrow Wilson, which appeared in Arctic Russia between 1918 and 1919 to fight on the side of the white Russians. And that's a big bone of contention too.

15:21 because they only fought on the side of the white Russians until Lenin and Trotsky got there, and then basically didn't fight quite so hard. They just wanted to beat the Russian forces that was going to stand in their way of what they planned on doing to Russia. Kennan's initial error was failing to detect the fine line of distinction between Russia

Stalin was considered a rock of salvation to the vast majority of Russians following the Great Patriotic War, as Stalin's cunning spinners smartly rebranded World War II. And again, this is a completely different view of internal Russia versus what we've been told in history, which is not unlike what's going on right now.

He began to oppose NATO and eventually recognized that wars of liberation raging in Asia were driven by blatant anti-colonial nationalism rather than Marxist-Leninist groupthink. In this light was the Brussels statement devised as a cunning flyer to indicate the subtle shift of first strike nuclear posture. 22:38 And the whole time calling us on every time we do this, that they're eventually going to do something. And then, of course, we call them a communist for doing it. But we've done like 20 different things in the interim. So the author goes on and talks about Sun Tzu talking about subduing the enemy troops without a fight and that whoever throws their kingdom without a lengthy fight in the field.

So even before World War II is over, the future American counterintelligence chief, Alan Dulles, Winston Churchill, and European leaders, including Paul Spack of Belgium and future president Francesco Costica of Italy, laid the basis for a network of stay-behind armies, pop-up guerrilla.

And that they have functioned basically as a shadow NATO member for a very long time. In a book called Honorable Men, there was a quote, only an exclusive.

So there was a professor, John Dufeld of Atlanta State University. He observed where any collection of countries opt for an internationalized cooperative to oversee their security.

His theory implied NATO was effectively designed by a committee of one, which Richard Nixon seemed to confirm when he remarked, quote, the only collective body that ever worked as NATO was NATO. And that was only because it was a military alliance and we were in charge of it.

These pastors were thoroughly filled by people like William Churchill, peerless pro-master of propaganda, because he was started off. What was his career when he started off? Oh, that's right. So he begins working for Alan Dulles, who he worked with anyway in the State Department when Alan Dulles was one in the European OSS. So Wisner cut his wartime espionage teeth, unsuccessfully trying to save Romania from communism. Enjoying relaxing interludes.

32:54 with the crown princess of Romania. He came from a fraternity of Wall Street lawyers, most of them did, cooling their heels after wartime elimination of the OSS. Wisner was overlord of the CIA's Office of Policy Coordination, as I just indicated.

34:50 So there was a lot of that back then. Wisner's fertile imagination ran amok even on American soil. He's the one that dreamt up Operation Mockingbird after the Texas Songbird. It was a disinformation highway featuring Wisner, the ideological traffic cop, directing and rewriting history.

35:21 He proudly called his creation the Mighty Wurlitzer. Wisner's Mockingbirds included some of America's best-known reporters. Wisner came from the Virginia State University ultra-secret Masonic Lodge known as Seven Society. Their memberships were the ones that were revealed only upon death with magnolias placed on their grave.

35:53 This, let's see. He was also thought to be a member of the Knights Templar. What's the one that comes after? Oh, the Knights of Malta. Yeah. The Wurlitzer of Wisners worked around the Washington Post primarily. That was one of his newspapers of choice with Philip Graham, who he became very close to, as well as Catherine.

36:32 Graham, the spouse, she was considered the queen of the Georgetown set. In 1953, Wisner finally got the chance to test run his covert warfare skills in the Iranian coup. And that was about, which we've talked about most today,

But what is yet to be dragged into the open is how the CIA manipulated the uprising and to what extent the agency acted independently. You had John Foster Dulles sitting as the Secretary of State displaying distinct signs of being caught off balance by the turn of events in Hungary. But there's not a lot known about it.

40:10 Was this Wisner's biggest gamble far reaching much farther than Iran, a freelance effort to try his new founded black ops program? Hopefully one day we'll know. There is some evidence that points to Hungary as a sort of proving ground for the forthcoming, what they now refer to as color revolutions. We refer to them as coups.

Despite the word central, the CIA was never granted an exclusive monopoly. There are other players on the field with petty jealousies.
