1:52 normal state of affairs. All right. So we're going to begin today talking about Clifford Forster, where we left off. And yesterday we were talking about the American Friends of Peace and Liberty. And Peace and Liberty in general was the organization that was set up in Paris as a CIA front.

2:23 They also set up a branch office in New York, and it's ran by Clifford Forster, F-O-R-S-T-E-R, who is a senior staff counsel to American Civil Liberty Union. Forster was born in New York City in 1913. His father, Carl von Forster, was born in Vienna, Austria.

The name of his company was L-E-R-O-N, Leron Incorporated in Paris. After a few years, the family moved back to the U.S. and opened an upscale business in Manhattan, Clifford Forster.

3:31 We will find yet another French connection to Skorzeny, as well as a direct family connection. Forster was a law graduate from Yale, class of 1935. From 40 to 54, he worked as a staff and special counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union. He apparently also worked as an intel operative.

4:00 although no official record exists. After the war, he would be decorated with the Jean d'Arc medal given to those who helped the resistance during the war, meaning the resistance in France. The medal was personally presented to Forster by General Pierre de Benoville, the former French resistance contact for Alan Dulles. Forster,

It is logical to assume that Clifford Forster was close to people and businesses in Paris and throughout France, because that's where his family was for quite a while. Additionally, we find that Forster had a pre-existing connection to Skorzeny. Forster's family,

5:04 was from Austria, which is where Skorzeny's from, and even lived in the same neighborhood that the Skorzeny's lived in. Forster's work with French intelligence and his family's acquaintance with Skorzeny's was why he was selected as a secret contact to Skorzeny.

5:25 Although there is no direct record of Clifford Forster being in the CIA, there is ample evidence he was involved in numerous intel front groups linked to the agency, one of which is the ACLU. There are other curious connections to Forster that we should highlight. First, directly after the war, Forster was the lead staff officer for the head of the ACLU under Roger Nash Baldwin.

5:57 Baldwin had hired a former U.S. Navy intel officer named Ben Bradley, and it's spelled B-R-A-D-L-E-E, as a clerk in his office. Bradley later became a famous journalist and connected to the famous challenge to the federal government over the right to publish the Pentagon Papers documents detailing the history of the U.S.'s deep role in Indochina.

6:27 Bradley only worked for the ACLU a few months, but in that short period, he worked side-by-side with Forster, who ran the office. This connection opens an amazing web of intrigue. Bradley was a childhood friend of Richard Helms, a veteran OSS officer and later CIA director under Nixon. Bradley also worked in Paris with Richard Ober.

6:58 OBER, a veteran CIA officer at the time Skorzeny was underground in the city. Ober had served in the OSS during the war as a liaison for the Gladio units. Given the intelligence background of both Bradley and Ober, their presence in Paris should be considered part of Operation Compass Rose, especially since Ober transitioned directly from OSS to the CIA.

7:30 Ober was assigned to the Special Operations Branch of the CIA that conducted wiretaps, break-ins, and burglaries as directed by the CIA. Historians have also identified him as the Deep Throat operative that was in the Watergate scandal. In 1954, Ober was assigned as Deputy CIA Officer to James Angleton. When the latter took over,

8:01 the agency's counterintelligence office. Returning again to Ben Bradley, his life takes on the essence of a classic spy. Bradley's wife, Toni Pinot, P-I-N-C-H-O-T, was in the Vassar class of 1944, sister of Mary Meyer, who was married to Cord Meyer.

8:35 Holy moly. The Panot girls were close friends with James Angleton's wife, also a Vassar class of 42. So the two sisters, one graduated in 44, one graduated in 42. And Angleton's wife also graduated in 42. And Cord Meyer, if I'm not mistaken, I don't know if he brings it out, but Cord Meyer's wife, Mary, is the one that was murdered.

9:11 that supposedly had a liaison with JFK, and they stole her diary. A highly decorated World War II, so Cord Meyer was in the Marines. Then he was invited to join the CIA under Alan Dulles. Meyer was assigned to Frank Wisner's office, which of course basically had operational control over Skorzeny.

9:40 In 1950, Meyer was appointed deputy of the International Organization Division of the CIA under Tom Braden, B-R-A-D-E-N, a highly experienced veteran of the British SOE and American OSS. So he worked for British intelligence and American intelligence. The IOD was the CIA's group that handled the cover organizations associated with Otto Skorzeny's.

10:09 throughout the 50s and 60s. They're the ones that set up all the front companies. Cord Meyer's wife, Mary Panot, had met then Marine Lieutenant Meyer in 1944. Meyer had lost his left eye in a horrific battle against the Japanese in Guam. At the close of the war, they married. Over the years, they had several children.

10:36 Mary was a popular woman in the CIA's social circles, and she was especially close to James Angleton and his wife, Cicely. In 1954, the Myers were the neighbors of then-Senator JFK and his wife, Jackie. The Kennedys had bought a house next door.

11:05 Over the course of time, the Myers marriage came under tremendous stress with Cord's work in the CIA and the loss of a child due to an unfortunate accident. In 1958, Mary filed for divorce from Cord. Then at some point early in the Kennedy presidency, Mary began a romantic relationship with the president. In October 1963, one month before his murder,

11:34 Kennedy wrote a passionate letter to Mary entreating her to join him for a secret rendezvous. The letter written on White House stationery was never sent, but secretly retained by Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln. The letter sold at auction in June 19, or excuse me, 2016, for just under $89,000.

12:03 After the death of Kennedy, Mary expressed grave concern for her life. Then on October 12, 1964, after finishing a painting, she went for a walk along a canal. Later that day, she was found murdered. The case went unsolved. Shortly before her death, Mary had confirmed her relationship with President Kennedy with a correspondence from the Washington Post.

Ben Bradley stated in 1995 memoir that he had received a phone call on the night of Mary's murder from a friend of hers who knew of the existence of a private diary. This sparked a bizarre chain of events to retrieve the diary since it purportedly had details of her affair with the president. According to Bradley,

Now, the only thing that I would add at this point is this is a story told exclusively by CIA people. So you have to take everything that we just read with a grain of salt.

14:23 A 1951 list of board members for the American Friends of Peace and Liberty reveals a Russian-born American journalist with strong anti-communist sentiments named Isaac Don Levin. Although the board contains many interesting names, the author singled out Levin.

14:46 as he played a significant role in 1964 as a suspected CIA operative involved in the manipulation of Lee Harvey Oswald's wife, Marina. Isaac Don Levin came to the U.S. in 1911 and worked for the Kansas City Star and the New York Tribune. After World War II, he was the editor of an anti-communist monthly, Plain Talk.

15:15 In 1948, he was a central figure in the case of Alger Hiss, a U.S. official who was accused by the magazine editor Whitaker Chambers of being a Communist Party member courier inside of the government. A lawyer in the case was Clifford Forster. It was Levin who first brought Chambers' accusation against Hiss to the attention.

This contact resulted in Levin being brought before a secret session of the Warren Commission in January 1964. Some details about the black operations or dirty tricks of Wybutt Simic were revealed by a disgruntled former deputy who came forward in 1951 with allegations that Wybutt had installed a major jewel.

After de Marquet returned to France, there were war clouds looming for France as well, and he began working in the Free France forces with the general. By this time, the general had been

So he becomes part of the Operation Gladio that is going to be built inside of France. De Marquet was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to a French Air Force parachute unit. So after World War II,

Only two years later, he's back in uniform, having rejoined the military and volunteering for duty in Indochina, which, of course, as we know, for Operation Gladio, they went over there and set up the source of drugs in the opium trade in Indochina.

Upon completing that assignment, he comes back to France and becomes part of the French, so there must be a SAS in France as well, paramilitary contingent to Compass Row. So he's embedded in Gladio. 32:58 The foremost unit with Compass Rose was the 11th Shock Battalion, composed of special operations soldiers and commanded by a Colonel Yves Goddard, G-O-D-A-R-D, Goddard. The unit was assigned to the SDECE Action Service. So this particular intelligence apparatus in France.

That was the overarching entity inside of France that organized all of, or had operational control, that's probably a better way to say it, had operational control of all of the French Gladio units. So this 11th Shock Brigade is part of that organization that has overarching Gladio.

And every time they got in trouble in Italy or France or anywhere, they run over to Spain for protection. Same thing with Portugal, Germany, they run to Spain for protection. 36:48 battalion training facility right on the border, and that gives them the ability to escape at a moment's notice into Spain. Okay, so you will find special commandos training there from British and from American, and pretty soon all of NATO. As the organization of the 11th Shock continued to develop, a new officer

A French intelligence officer assigned to the SDECE and liaison to the CIA stated that in this period, liquidations were an almost daily routine. It is highly unlikely that the local police were privy to the fact that he was operating with the French government and could ill afford to reveal their clandestine relationship with him.
