I'm almost done with it. It's a crazy book. This book is so good that I will probably do a parallel posting and book review.

He had a business thing he's been working on and has been very busy. So anyway, when I finished the Skorzeny papers, there's a couple of things in here that we'll get to that talked about the Asian theater.

6:47 And people wonder where his money came from. I just thought that was very interesting that he's at one of the biggest banks while all of these banks are. So what they were doing was they were taking. Oh, yeah. Poor hamster. What they were doing, because at some point it became legal to take gold from private sources.

7:23 But most of the time this was going on, it was not. They had to melt down gold and re-stamp it like they did at the end of Germany. And that allows a discount. So what they would do is they knew the gold was bad, like stolen gold. So they say, okay, we'll take it, but we're going to take it for pennies on the dollar and help you money launder it.

7:53 that's basically what was happening. And then the banks, once they had it, it's legitimate gold and they could sell it for full retail. And it's very interesting. The timing of Nixon taking us off the gold standard in 1972, right around the same time, all of this was hitting the streets. So if they could offload the gold at the Weber rate was like,

8:54 towards the end of the war that Skorzeny and Hitler were targeting Eisenhower for assassination. Skorzeny says, and his papers kind of validate that that was never the case, but it's funny that he says if he had been given the tasking, he would have killed him.

9:24 He wasn't shy about what he did. Also, there were a few other people that was rumored to be like Bedell Smith, which was an OSS officer at the time that was in Skorzeny's crosshairs. But Skorzeny says, here's a quote. It is not true that I tried to kill General Eisenhower.

Very analytical guy. Okay, so infamous Peter group. And this is another one that I've never even heard of.

10:19 And it didn't come out in any of our other Operation Gladio books, but it does in here. Skorzeny directly controlled and supported a number of covert networks in countries occupied by Germans. That part we did know. But in Denmark, there was a specific one that was called the Peter Group. Despite having signed a 10-year non-aggression pact with Denmark in 1939, Germany invaded the country in 1940.

10:48 They had a habit of doing that. The Danish government quickly surrendered and became a protectorate of the Nazi government. Cooperative agreements lasted until 43. The Danish government refused further cooperation, scuttled its Navy and dispatched many of its officers to Sweden. The Danish resistance secretly, secretly, excuse me. I'll never be able to catch my breath after running for the, try to find our dog.

11:20 The Danish resistance, secretly supported by the British Special Operations Branch, elevated its anti-German sabotage and targeted Danish collaborators. The Germans mounted a counter campaign and established a corps that was considered counterinsurgency force manned by Danish volunteers.

11:42 The SS commanders in Denmark complained of a lack of manpower and experience to carry on their mission. Skorzeny is called in and lends his expertise in helping to neutralize the resistance. A guy by the name of Otto Swentz was put in charge of the group. The group was set up in Denmark towards the end of December 1943.

12:13 Slafer, from which the unit took its name. The Peter Group was in Copenhagen, and they set up a liaison and planning with local government, German police, and other intelligence resources. The group was also augmented by Danish collaborators. The objective was to checkmate, sabotage, and carry out liquidations of the Danish resistance movement.

12:43 A list of targets was developed that included journalists and writers. The Peter Group had an unparalleled history as a terror group. In the 16 months the group was active, it conducted 102 killings and 25 attempted murders. It also did demolitions, basically explosives, setting off 157 blasts of property and businesses. In November 1944, Swartz

13:14 was recalled by Skorzeny and Horst Paul Issel was placed in command. Issel would remain at the head of the group until the end of the war. We have not heard the last of the notorious assassins in this Peter group. They're featured throughout the book. What's interesting about this is very rarely do you hear Denmark and Sweden

13:44 being associated with Operation Gladio. But all of them had a very active Operation Gladio network. And this Peter group is one that we had not come across in any of our other books. So that's why we're kind of doing a broad brush and trying to collect up all of these, put them in a chart so that we can reference them in the future when we come across things like this. 14:17 Another Gladio operation. And this is interesting because he starts talking about the werewolf unit. Another Nazi network that involves Skorzeny was the infamous werewolves, which is what we know to be the origins of Operation Gladio inside of Germany. The operation hierarchy included Heinrich Himmler and its purpose, as we know, was to wreak havoc.

14:48 in any occupied territory as basically this stay behind or the forces that once the territory was taken over could rise up behind the front flanks to ambush them. 15:20 Peg, that date is 1942. So just so that you know that. And a guy by the name of Hans Adolf Pritzmann is another guy that was in the hierarchy above Skorzeny in the werewolf configuration. Tactics of the werewolves include sniping, assassination, arson, and other acts of sabotage.

15:51 Efforts were made to pre-position supplies, arms, and ammo for the project, which we know. Skorzeny did not place great faith in the efforts and had far more significant priorities on his plate. And I think that's the reason why these generally were left to that other guy whose last name is Wolf to set up most of these stay-behind units as far as the logistics goes. His unit did conduct some training.

16:21 training of the werewolf recruits and provided logistical support. Skorzeny's did participate in Operation Carnival, which included the successful assassination of Franks Oppenhoff, a Nazi official suspected of being a collaborator with the Allies. In 1944, Hitler had taken a

16:48 personal interest in people that he believed was committing treason. And he ordered the elimination of Oppenhoff. So Goebbels had passed on the liquidation order, Wetworks, to Skorzeny's unit. The assassination unit had four SS men and two members of the Hitler Youth Squad. The team was dropped by parachute.

17:23 from a captured U.S. B-17 bomber operating by KG-200, a top-secret Luftwaffe unit under the de facto control of Skorzeny. This is the unit Skorzeny utilized to drop foreign agents and special commandos deep behind enemy lines. Oppenhoff assassination team was dropped into a forested area not far from the target area. 17:53 The city had one member of the team, which was a female agent, Elsie Hirsch. She gets separated from the unit, but she eventually links back up with them. Hirsch had to use her contacts in the city to find Oppenhoff's location. Oppenhoff's residence, posing. So the team go to his house, posing as German pilots.

18:24 trying to get back to friendly lines. Oppenhoff's guard is down. The assassins shout, Hail Hitler, as they shoot him in the head. Then they have already prearranged their getaway squad, and the woman steps on a landmine, killing a member of the team and badly wounding herself. Following the ward, they were tracked down, arrested, and tried. All were found guilty and received presents.

The werewolf movement never, so this author says that the werewolf movement didn't gain much momentum except for local terror events, but he's looking at it just as the thing that's being called the werewolf units, not the overall Gladio program itself.

19:33 So because he does make a couple of references to the Gladio overall organization as we continue on. And so recognizing, and that's an important point to make, we refer to the entire operation as Gladio. We know that it has had multiple different names. I use that as a generic term.

20:03 The one specifically in Italy is Gladio. And it was referred to as Gladio overall within NATO. But we also know that Operation Condor was kind of a subset of Gladio that happened throughout South America, which you would think has nothing to do with NATO. So technically it couldn't be called Gladio necessarily. However, what we find is the same.

20:32 operators doing the same work in South America that were doing the work in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Belgium. So it can happen all over the world and we're going to find out that it happened in the Philippines and other countries.

21:00 Again, I just want to make clear terminology wise, we refer to the entire thing as Gladio, even though in some countries like Germany, they started off as werewolf units. In Portugal, it was called a genter press. We're just generically calling it Gladio. So I want to make sure everybody understands that. Operation Technique, which was referred to as OT, was another Skorzeny special forces operation.

21:31 was used to carry out a number of independent operations aimed at provoking right-wing resistance in France. The OT had the mission of creating the Alliance of Anti-Communists, and we know any time that we hear the words anti-communist, it basically means it's Gladio for all intents and purposes. This effort was to exploit a close bond of brotherhood that existed between

22:01 Former members of the Congeaulais, regardless of who they sided with, in essence, the former Congeaulais, which is a name used to describe a group in France, serving with Skorzeny's command, were attempting to establish a dialogue with the former Congeaulais serving in the French resistance and French army.

So they wanted to provide a conduit to the Americans, thus weakening the Allied partnership with the Soviet Union. So they're trying to drive a wedge in between the Allies and Russia or the Soviets.

23:00 they were also aligned with the French intelligence. And we've already talked about the Vichy, V-I-C-H-E, French forces that had moved to the south of France. And we had Charles de Gaulle who had taken basically, considered himself a representative of the French government in exile.

23:31 That had moved to. The UK. So in October. Of. I think we're in 1943. 44. The. Let's see. In October they. A guy by the name of Joseph. Dardnand. Dardnand. The former head of the Vichy.

24:07 French fascist paramilitary organization consisting of 150 to 200 volunteers to be trained as agents and sent back to France to fight the Allied forces. So this is another mission that Skorzeny is being given. Command of the OT was given to Jean Degen, a former member of the Conjolet and former director of the Vichy police. The liaison with the...

24:35 came from Skorzeny's unit and a guy by the name of Gene, F-I-L-L-I-O-L, who was himself part of the former police in the Conjoli. So several of the members of this group sabotaged the Secret Services camps.

25:04 that were established in Germany and was training and doing operational planning to help Skorzeny's special forces. So basically what you have is a formation that Skorzeny is working on inside of France. So in anticipation of the Allies trying to take over France and creating their stay-behind units.

25:32 That's kind of the, that's impulse of what they're doing. What's interesting about this is they do a lot of terror events during this time. And so basically you have what was the French police, the French military, try to explain this.

26:04 You kind of have fascist French and the French that are aligned with de Gaulle, which are more nationalist. That's the best way to explain it. The Vichy French that go to the south are more along the fascist. They're the ones that want to keep Algeria. They're the ones that kind of sucked up to Germany.

26:32 When they were overrun, they were making deals with Germany. And the de Gaulle faction, which were the nationalists, didn't want to have anything to do with that. What you see in overall terms is a fracture that occurs in France that lasted decades after this. It lasted throughout the civil war in Algeria.

27:02 Because you find both sides of the French population on both sides of that civil war. You had people that wanted Algeria to be free, that were fighting for the freedom of Algeria. And you also had French people that was fighting to keep it a colony of France. And that permeated through all of France. Their police force, their special forces, their government, their military.

27:32 The intelligence. So you had people spying on people spying on people. It was a hot mess. And you almost believe, since we know right after the war, they picked Paris for NATO's new headquarters. It almost makes you believe that that was intentional. Because keep in mind what we've learned through this whole thing. They want...

28:03 chaos. And in chaos, they can control everybody. So where would you pick of all of the places in Europe that you could set up NATO's headquarters that was going to be somewhat stable, it would not have been France. So anyway, that's kind of a shortened version of what

28:33 they're going to be talking about through these next few pages into chapter four, which then gets us into the secret armies, which is what basically Gladio is. So we left off in chapter two with the disbandment of OSS and the SOE, which is the British version of the OSS, and the formation of the BACC, which was the British American Canadian Corporation.

29:06 and the World Commerce Corporation, the WCC, which are front companies for both what will be MI6 and the CIA. Those are front companies. They were created as clandestine operations within Project Safe Haven. In 1947, a new crisis emerges in France and across Europe as a whole that required the immediate commitment of British and American covert forces to alleviate

29:43 The situation, a plan was devised by General Donovan of the OSS to restructure the BACC under WCC and to utilize the combined secret network of former SOEs and OSS officers currently operating under the respective corporate structures.

So, the history of these events, which will ultimately serve as the impetus for the inclusion of Otto Skorzeny in the Cold War covert operations. These events will also have a lasting implication far down the line to include the Kennedy assassination.

30:33 and the first of which was called Plan Bleu, B-L-E-U. Immediately after World War II, France was a country with extreme political turmoil, which we just talked about. In 1945, the French people voted for a new constitution creating the Fourth Republic. French military authorities in Austria and Germany

30:57 were engaged in carrying out occupation duties along with the British and American allies. They kind of created different zones. And the French was in charge of a zone. The Americans were in charge of a zone. In France, internal political conflict between the right and left, which is what I was just describing, wrecked havoc on the French intel.

31:25 services. In 1946, General Charles de Gaulle resigned as president over heated disagreements with the French assembly concerning his executive powers. He then retired to his country estate. In the meantime, the French Communist Party was poised to take over the government. The French Communist Party had held prominent positions in Charles de Gaulle's free French forces, including its intel services.

31:55 The leadership of the communist forces had originally planned to seize control by force, but opted instead to infiltrate the centers of power and authority to achieve their ends. And I'm just going to caveat this because in going back in many of these cases, what these people label as communist forces turned out to be, as we know in several other countries, not to be necessarily communist at all. They just weren't.

32:26 left-leaning fascist that would work with the Americans. So just take the communist word with a grain of salt. That's what we've discovered thus far. So, of course, these people being in positions of any government struck fear in the British and the American because they were not going to be friendly to them in carrying out what they wanted.

32:55 that country to do. The U.S. ambassador to France, Jefferson Caffrey, warned Washington of a potential communist takeover of the government. He raised the concern of how communism would taint the French intel services and that basically it would destroy France. In 1946, American and British intelligence planners were tasked to neutralize the communist threat in France.

33:23 which resulted in the creation of Operation Codename Plan Blue. And then, of course, you have to have the enemy in order to create these underground stay-behind units to deal with the enemy, when in fact they're really just dealing with people they don't like inside of the country.

33:43 The secret forces involved in Plan Blue consisted of American and British operators with wartime experience in covert action. The exact date of the plan is not known, but by January of 46, the British SOE had been ordered to shut down. It must be assumed that the assets in that organization were transferred to other British intelligence services, perhaps even to the British military.

34:13 Here you get both. We already heard about the Donovan being so devastated that Truman wasn't going to continue the OSS. So he created both the BACC and the WCC as front covers, civilian covers for the intelligence assets that they were going to keep around. So you have the same thing here. And that's basically what they're talking about.

34:43 These people who have basically had the run of it throughout World War II and all of the espionage and killing people, they're like bloodthirsty clowns at this point. And there's no way they're going to allow an end to their control over what they've already...

According to the research conducted by Daniel Ganser, which we talked about Daniel's book, it was NATO's secret armies, Operation Gladio, and the terrorism in Western Europe. Plan Blue was fully underway by the early months of 1947.

35:36 With covert cells established all across France, Plan Blue's staff included highly experienced British SOE and SAS officers and equally experienced American Special Forces officers. Operations also included special units of the French Secret Service known as the DGER. This proved a great risk, however, as communists had penetrated those organizations. The DGER

36:05 was eventually replaced with the SDECE, which is the one that we talked most about in Paul Williams' book, that the SDECE in France, which is basically their counter-espionage branch, are the ones that administered French's Operation Gladio units. In June of 1947,

36:35 Despite the best efforts of Plan Blue staff to maintain operational security, an unexpected roadblock emerged when the French Socialist Minister of the Interior, Edward Depew, intentionally revealed Plan Blue to the French people. He fully described the operation and even revealed the name of the plan. He also leveled an accusation that was correct, that the U.S. and British Intel were working with the French.

However, we do know that these same people tried to assassinate de Gaulle over 20 times. The national stir ensued with purported investigations uncovering caches of heavy weapons and plans. 37:35 He kind of blew the whistle on Operation Gladio. There were even suggestions that planning was underway to assassinate de Gaulle in an attempt to incite public resentment. The scandal also served to fuel the political turmoil in the country. A French investigation into Plan Blue affair was conducted by the SDECE, which, as we know, is the people that was actually going to be in charge of it.

38:05 He acknowledged the role of the intelligence services, but insisted the arms caches found all over the country were staged to fight communists, not stage a coup. You see how critical this story is that you justify everything because of the big bad boogeyman called communism. They were actually there to do domestic violence.

Despite the fact that Plan Blue had been exposed, the overall assessment from Washington and London was that it was greatly diminished the strength, that it had greatly diminished the strength of the Communist Party, because there really isn't a threat. Nor did the exposure of the plan alter Americans and British resolve to eliminate the communist threat in France.

39:03 And read that as it didn't get rid of their resolve to keep Gladio units inside of France. In 1947, rising concerns under Soviet intentions were mounting, intensifying Western preparations for war. Gotta rattle that cage, because once we went to World War II, we've never demobilized. Intelligence was forecasting worst-case scenarios, because that's what they do.

39:32 in which large portions of Europe was going to be overran by Soviet forces. And there was never any indication that was true. The new initiatives in the anti-communist planning would now include the formation of these secret armies or stay-behind forces. One of those involved in the early stage stay-behind units was William Colby, director of the CIA from 73 to 76.

40:01 We sort of anticipated another world war, a world war that would be characterized by the occupation of Western Europe by Soviet forces. We were preparing to set up a base for a resilient movement that would exist during the war. Another firsthand participant, Thomas Polgar, who had been interviewed by this major, referred to the efforts as

Polgar also told the author that the planning was made following the pattern of organizations that existed in the final years of World War II in Western Europe, which was stay-behind units. Donovan suggested the formation of a private paramilitary group made up of former American, British, Canadian and French operatives and placing them under the cover of the World Commerce Corporation, WCC. This plan was submitted by Donovan and was approved in short order. This becomes, I can't, this is like a foot stomper to me.

41:33 They are setting up civilian corporations to hide CIA activity in. That is exactly what has permeated every since then. The CIA is in every nonprofit. I mean, we explored the World Wildlife Fund. They're there. That's a cover for Gladio. And we talked a lot about that in our last book.

There's people like, oh, the CIA would never do anything like that. Are you kidding me? They created the entire 60s and 70s music industry as a front for their activity. 42:35 The point I want all of us to know when we're looking at patterns is when an organization, even though it may be a nonprofit or what we think like Chiquita Bananas was United Fruit, and that entire freaking thing was a CIA op, the airlines that we went over at Nauseam, all involved as CIA front companies, banks are CIA front companies. You have to wonder what,

The exact name of the covert groups established by Donovan and authorized by the U.S. authorities in 1947, this author, this major, says that the name of that was not known. That's what we refer to as Operation Gladio.

But so every time we talk about Secret Paramilitary Group, we're going to say Operation Gladio, because that's what it is. When discussing the hidden covert organizations Donovan formed within the World Commerce Corporation, the new anti-communist operations of

The unofficial intelligence apparatus, Service d'Order, operated completely independently of the formal French intelligence. It kept its activities secret from the government. 47:00 All Service de Order members were carefully vetted for Western loyalty, and they were the only French intelligence officers trusted by American and British intelligence. Most Service de Order officers had served in the French Resistance or with the Free French Forces after the war.

47:26 Service de Order was based in France, but it also had active personnel in all French occupied zones, whether it was in Germany or Austria and eventually Algeria. The group was highly effective at penetrating all levels of the French military and the intelligence service, the SDECE.

47:58 So this is basically a paramilitary organization that is infiltrating. It's like our CIA. And they're infiltrating all of the formal government apparatus where it actively recruited intel officers in every rank to work for its purposes. Captains and colonels in the organizations oversaw various clandestine field detachments.
