The fact that John Foster Dulles said that Japan was broke when in fact they were extremely rich. Just everything about World War II as it relates to Japan has been a big fat lie. 10:46 The Marcos were hit by lawsuits accusing them of theft and conversion of recovered treasury, human rights abuse, racketeering related to the treasure. So now remember, Marcos gets basically deposed. He gets thrown out. Aquino gets put in. And Marcos is in Hawaii. So they file a big fat lawsuit against him. Ensuing revelations in court lifted the veil of secrecy a little bit.

The Reagan administration's inept damage control, specifically during Iran-Contra, revealed big black operations previously unknown, and a network of private military and intelligence companies intending to privatize U.S. foreign policy and national security, called the Enterprise, on the intelligence part of it.

To protect Roxas, he and Ducani formed what was called the Golden Buddha Corporation.

13:07 or GBC, and Roxas assigned his interest in the treasure to GBC. As Roxas no longer had control of the claim, it was less likely that he'd be threatened or tricked out of his money. De Cani's Georgia attorney sought outside help and reached an agreement with Daniel Cathcart, an influential firm in Los Angeles.

13:31 Cathcart filed a lawsuit against Marcos in Hawaii, asking for damages, including injuries from beatings and torture. The suit asserted that Marcos had stolen the Golden Buddha, diamonds, gold bars from Roxas, then removed a lot more of the treasure from the tunnel. Because remember, thank you, old timers. I really appreciate that.

13:58 Remember that Roxas had done all of the appropriate paperwork to file a claim for that gold tunnel. And then they tricked him, they beat him, they tortured him and got him into hiding. And then Marcos went back and took all the gold out while the people in the hospital next door were watching them. And that's how they figured out the value of it.

17:46 Cathcart interviewed Roxas exhaustively for five days, prying details from his memory. Cathcart concluded that 10 people might still be alive who knew what really happened. He asked Friedman to track them down one by one. Many years had passed. It wouldn't be easy. Roxas remembered an American GI stationed in the Philippines who visited his home and took photos of Roxas with the gold Buddha.

18:14 just before it was stolen. His name might have been Tim. Friedman begins a tedious process of poring over Pentagon records. After more than a year, she tracked down a guy by the name of Ken Cheatham working at a night security guard in Las Vegas hotel. She was like Eureka. That was kind of her striking gold. According to Cheatham,

An amateur treasure hunter, he was intrigued by all of the stories of Yamashita's gold and drove up to the city that Roxas was from to search for Japanese artifacts. 19:10 The resort town was buzzing with rumors that the local man had found something amazing. Cheatham knocked on the door and introduced himself. It turned out that they were members of the same treasure hunting club run by Gene Ballinger. Roxas took Cheatham to his back bedroom and removed the bedspread covering the gold Buddha. Cheatham got out his camera and took photos, including a shot of himself with Roxas and the Buddha.

19:40 Irrefutable proof that Cheatham was there and the Buddha existed. Back at Clark Field, he wrote a letter to Gene Ballinger enclosing prints of his photo. Ballinger published an article on the discovery in his Treasure Hunter newsletter, wrongly identifying Cheatham as Roxas' partner. The story was picked up by a newswire and carried in the U.S. military paper Stars and Stripes. When Marcos saw the story, he hit the roof.

20:10 Cheatham was summoned to the base security where he was confronted by a CIA officer and Marcus' agents. He told Arlen Friedman, the CIA guy told me to say that the statue wasn't made of gold and to downplay the whole thing so Marcus could lose interest in me. If I got involved in this, he said, they would ship me to Vietnam. Cheatham was scared.

20:37 At the insistence of the CIA officer, he signed an affidavit certifying that the Buddha was not made of gold. He told Cathcart that he had lied about the Buddha from then on, saying that it was brass. Anyway, not gold. At the trial in Hawaii, Cheatham's photographs provided definitive physical proof that Roxas did possess the Buddha with a removable head, totally unlike the brass Buddha that had a fixed head.

21:07 Next, Kartheit and Freedom had to establish that it was Marcos who stole the Buddha. In Las Vegas, she made contact with Robert Curtis, who eventually gave a long videotape deposition describing how in 1975 he had spent many hours with Marcos. He had seen the Buddha with the removable head in the office of the president at the Summer Palace. Curtis testified that he had examined it closely, unscrewed its head, determined

And remember way back in like chapter two, I told you about the little holes that they bore into it to take the samplings out to test and make sure it was gold. Those tiny drill holes in the back by the neck produced powder that he could run through the necessary test. Mendoza testified.

22:53 that his test showed the Buddha was solid 22 karat gold. Aside from the Buddha, there also was a theft of a small gold like biscuit bars and thousands of other gold indigo that Roxas had sealed in a tunnel for his own use to later recover. The Filipino army cook, Juan Coenjan,

23:24 testified to the Honolulu Court that he had been assigned to Task Force Restoration, an army unit created in 1972 by Marcos and General Ver, to secretly excavate the treasures in the Philippines. He spent nearly a year with other soldiers excavating the tunnels behind the hospital, which was Roxas' stash.

23:55 He also watched three or four men at a time carry out heavy wooden boxes, and then some of the wood boxes broke, and he saw the gold bars drop to the ground, which of course is what we read that the hospital people that were there at the time was also testifying to. 24:24 In a possession of enormous quantities of gold bullion, far in excess of known Filipino reserves, Friedman tracked down two Australian brokers who in the early 1980s had negotiated nine contracts with Marcos to sell a total of $1.6 trillion in gold. What was started as archival research became dangerous. One morning, she entered a stairwell of a parking garage and a man grabbed her from behind. We just want your help, he hissed. She punched her way free, escaping with a few cuts and bruises.

27:19 Cat Cart's eight-floor office suite in a glass tower in Century City was broken into, bugged with security devices, and experts told him the bugging was not done by Marcos, but by Washington, D.C., because the government was far too high-tech for anyone but the U.S. or the stuff was too high-tech for anyone but the government. His law office was under constant surveillance from teams.

When he took the pills, he died. Come on.

The jury decided in favor of Roxas and his heirs and awarded GBC a judgment of $43 billion against the Marcos estate.

Later on appeal, the award was reduced to $22 billion flat based on the contentious that nobody knew beyond question what was in every last one of the wood boxes, which is ridiculous. In a few more years, everybody connected to Santee will be dead, and the custody of his cash and gold will remain in the banks forever, like the Holocaust gold. For Washington, stonewalling is imperative not only because of the gigantic assets involved,

Potentially, it would disclose their entire covert black operations budget to include the Black Eagle Trust and diversions to secret funds like the M Fund. This could damage reputations, careers, and make unavoidable an investigation by the General Accounting Office and Congress.
